To set up a session in Minecraft Dungeons, one player will act as the host and invite others to join their game. Up to four friends can be on a team and can either be added as local or online co-op partners (unfortunately, Mojang says that "at launch, local co-op and online multiplayer cannot be played simultaneously"). There's a handy menu for players to see if others are online, which gives the option to drop in and out of a friend's game.

When playing online co-op, the screen will not be split between players and everyone's screen will centre on their own character. There's also no invisible banding limiting how far you can roam from each other. Players are free to explore wherever they like, but many of the mobs and challenges in each level are designed for a team effort.

Playing with friends in Minecraft Dungeons is often more fun than playing alone. It's one of the game's primary draws: you and three friends frantically slicing through mobs to get glorious loot and treasure. Consequently, you might be wondering how to invite friends for Minecraft Dungeons online coop. However, the process of setting up an online coop session is a bit tricky. You can only invite friends and join sessions being hosted by your friends. You can't join or invite strangers, which is absolutely understandable. Minecraft Dungeons is best experienced with a common goal in mind, and players you're familiar with.

In order to play multiplayer Minecraft Dungeons, there are two methods: local and online. Local is much easier, though it's not always accessible. Players can play together and do a split-screen as long as there are multiple controllers.

Online multiplayer is a bit more challenging. This requires a good Internet connection and usually a subscription of some kind. The following consoles have different subscription services for online play, which extends to Minecraft Dungeons:

Minecraft Dungeons can be played via local or online split-screen with a total of four party members. The main story will take players through a total of ten main levels and will provide multiple hours of entertainment. Further, there are also a handful of secret levels that players can discover along the way.

Internet connection required during online play. To use online services, you must create a Nintendo Account and accept the related agreement. The Nintendo Account Privacy Policy applies. Some online services may not be available in all countries. Online play requires paid online membership. Find out more about the paid membership subscription.

Minecraft Dungeons offers a new twist to the Minecraft formula in a brand new game. Now, you can plunder an array of dungeons with your friends to fight epic bosses, wave after wave of enemy, and go after some high-quality loot awaiting you at the end of a long adventure. While you can play online with your friends, can you play with strangers?

The first step to playing online multiplayer in Minecraft Dungeons is to complete the game's tutorial, and reaching the first camp with Mission Select indicates that this has been done. From there, players can either join a friend's online session or create their own, and both options can be initiated from character select or during standard gameplay.

One final thing to say about playing Minecraft Dungeons with friends online is that some players report encountering errors when attempting to join a session. While this is likely to be an issue with the game servers, fans that come across these errors should verify that all players have completed this new dungeon crawler's tutorial.

When logged in and ready to go, anyone can send invites to their friends and check which friends are online on their platforms. However, Switch and PlayStation players may only be able to send invites, and not receive them. This may require some prep work and setup to get all your friends in the same game. Make sure everyone knows your gamertag on your platform of choice so they can find you more easily using the Friends menu.

After advancing from the main menu, players can select whether to jump into an online or offline session. If they opt for an online session, they will be prompted to party up with active friends from their native platform's friends list. It is currently unknown how this process will change once cross-platform play is integrated. The Minecraft website will likely institute a detailed change once that update arrives.

(Update: Cross-platform play was officially announced at Minecraft Live 2020. It will be added in a free December update allowing PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch owners to all play online with one another.)

Until cross-platform play is integrated, enjoy Minecraft Dungeons with friends online or locally at home. Minecraft Dungeons is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One (including via Xbox Game Pass), and Nintendo Switch. We'll have more on this game in the days to come, so be sure to follow our ongoing Minecraft Dungeons coverage.

If your game is online, the update will download automatically. Not online? Contact your local distributor to get online and get the FREE update! You will also receive a coupon redeemable for a free pull-up banner displaying the BRAND NEW Series 2 cards! 041b061a72
